Our Mission

The mission of Highland Avenue Fellowship is to make disciples of Jesus Christ in our community first and then to the ends of the earth. (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8). The mission field begins in our homes and extends to the farthest reaches of the world. We are not content to sit on the sidelines while people enter eternity without God. We want to be part of building the Kingdom of God in our generation.

Our Vision

Our vision is to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ who help others find, live, and share the love of God.

Our Values

We value Doctrine. We affirm the truth and authority of apostolic teaching as recorded in Scripture. (Acts 2:42, 2 Timothy 4:3-4, Jude 1:3) and expressed in the historic orthodox creeds of the Christian Church.

We value Scripture. We affirm the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God; and are therefore completely reliable as the source of our faith and totally authoritative in matters of doctrine and conduct (2 Timothy 3:16).

We value Evangelism . We affirm the value of each person without distinction as the object of God’s love and seek to invite all persons into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and into the fellowship of His body, the Church. The conditions of salvation are repentance and faith. (John 3:16, 2 Peter 3:9, Galatians 3:26-29)

We value The Church. We affirm that the Church, as the body of Christ, is an organic fellowship of Christian believers, who are indwelt by the presence of the Holy Spirit, and are characterized primarily by their allegiance and obedience to Jesus as LORD and Savior and by their love for, and mutual ministry to one another (John 13:34-35, Ephesians 4:11-6, Colossians 1:18).

We value Covenant Fellowship. It is our conviction that the primary obligation of followers of Christ is to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18). It is therefore our expectation that everyone who calls HAFC home, will participate in opportunities for transformational spiritual growth, with the goal of being empowered and equipped for a life of fruitful discipleship (John 15:8).

We value our heritage . Highland Avenue Fellowship Church has a rich heritage of faith in Melbourne. For over 120 years, our church has been a faithful witness for Christ in our community. As an independent local congregation of followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to be a continual witness in Melbourne and beyond (Acts 1:8).

We value transformed lives . Christ accepts us as we are but does not leave us that way. Through discipleship, the Holy Spirit transforms us into fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.
